Importance of a Pre-Purchase Inspection:

The importance of getting a pre-purchase inspection performed on a second-hand vehicle cannot be understated. Private car purchasers (i.e. non-dealer) in Queensland have no recourse if they purchase a lemon, and older vehicles sold by dealers often don’t come with a statutory warranty. A pre-purchase inspection simply informs you of the true value of the vehicle; if $3,000 in repairs are needed to get the car running well, it may make more sense to spend that on a better vehicle.

Our pre-purchase inspections are thorough and leave no stone unturned in ensuring your vehicle is safe and in good condition. In addition to looking at all the standard wear items, we’ll pay extra attention to common faults found with that particular make and model, look over the maintenance history and put the pieces together to determine what kind of life the vehicle has endured.

Included in a pre-purchase inspection:

  • Road test & brake testing
  • Cosmetic inspection
  • Underbody inspection for frame damage & evidence of accidents
  • Suspension inspection
  • Engine bay & driveline inspection
  • Testing of lights and safety equipment
  • Testing of accessories & air-conditioning
  • Tyre inspection

Pre-purchase inspection vs roadworthy inspection:

We’ll provide a much more detailed report of mechanical problems and future concerns than you would get with a roadworthy certificate. All sellers of second-hand vehicles are required to obtain a roadworthy certificate.

Roadworthy certificates merely prevent cars with leaks, bald tyres and other safety hazards from being sold registered. They don’t, however, inform you of the condition and maintenance history of the vehicle you own. With one of our detailed pre-purchase inspection reports, you’ll be able to determine the true value of the vehicle, knowing what must be performed to get it working as intended.
